Andy Murray celebrated his wedding day in style yesterday with a Dothraki wedding in Dunblane. The Wimbledon winner turned down the usual offers from Hello and OK for the rights to his wedding, and was instead sponsored by SKY as he bid to shake his dour reputation with the unusual bash.
With Sky’s flagship series due to return on Monday it was a great opportunity for both parties to promote themselves.
Dothraki weddings ‘begin at dawn and end at dusk, an endless day of drinking and feasting and fighting’, so in a bid to differentiate it from a normal day in Scotland, Murray invited along famous bottler Tim Henman.
The wedding itself was controversial as six months after calling for the end of the union between Scotland and England, Scot Murray was found engaging in a union with the English Kim Sears. The death of a photographer at the rehearsal dinner was hoped to be the start of a truly vulgar and debaucherous weekend but no other deaths have been reported.
Unfortunately for Murray a ‘Dothraki wedding without at least three deaths is considered a dull affair’ so he may not have been able to shake his reputation yet.
